The Museum

The Jago Museum Capri at Villa Lysis embodies the island’s unmistakable identity and brings it into dialogue with contemporary art.

The exhibition offers an immersive experience in which sculpture blends with the spirit of the place, renewing its artistic vocation.

“A museum is an attempt to preserve an idea of beauty.”

Jago

THE PLACE

Villa Lysis

Villa Lysis is a place suspended above the sea and timeless, transporting us back to the atmosphere of the Belle Époque. Once a hub of literary activity, the villa served as a refuge for marginalised intellectuals and free spirits, its history inextricably linked to that of its founder: the French Baron Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen.

“I am curious to understand what kind of artist I can be here, in Capri.”

Jago

THE HISTORY

Past and Present

Built in the early 20th century as a retreat for the Baron, in Art Nouveau style with oriental influences, the villa takes its name from Plato’s dialogue *Lysides*. Even after Fersen’s tragic death, the villa continued to be a symbol of freedom.

After decades of neglect and following the revitalization efforts launched in the 1990s, Villa Lysis is now home to the Jago Museum Capri. The interplay between historical memory and Jago’s new works, created specifically for this space, creates a synergy that transforms the marble into a bridge between the past and the future.
